Maltipoos are a hybrid mix of the Maltese and the Toy Poodle. They were initially bred in the United States and are recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club, American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Breed Registry and the International Designer Canine Registry. The Maltipoo can thank his parents, a Maltese and a Poodle, for many of his great qualities. Maltese are said to be the oldest dog breeds known to man and have roots dating back to 3500 B.C. in Malta. These dogs are known for their loyalty and companionship and their warm demeanors. The Toy Poodle originated in Germany and was originally bred to be a water dog aiding hunters in retrieving small game. Poodles are also known for their companionship, intelligence, and friendly demeanor.
The Maltipoo has a very approachable demeanor and a friendly disposition. This breed is ranked as one of the smarter existing dog breeds and is a joy to be around. They do well with children and other pets in the household and tend to bond quickly with their families. This breed is one of the better all-around family dogs and is sure to win your heart (and lap) in no time at all.
Brushing your Maltipoo regularly will keep hair mats and tangles at bay. Using a pin or slicker brush to go through his coat daily and remove any tangles or knotted hair is a great way to prevent matting. For some Maltipoos spritzing their hair with a detangling spray before brushing helps prevent static buildup and loosens their hair. Monthly nail clipping and bathing are also recommended to help your pup feel and look his best. This hybrid pooch offers a playful personality wrapped in a coat that can range from scruffy to curly and comes in a wide variety of colors. The most frequently seen colors are white, black, apricot, and red. They have curly to scruffy coats that do well with a daily brushing and a weekly bath. Utilizing a slicker brush is a good way to keep his hair from matting. Routine teeth cleaning is very important in this dog's health, as is nail clipping.
As your Maltipoo grows, he will need more and more nutrition. Feeding this dog a well-balanced diet using only quality dog food is key. Many Maltipoo owners also tend to feed their puppy on a twelve-hour schedule. Keeping this dog's teeth cleaned is a good way to ensure his overall health. Nail clipping, routine baths, and daily coat brushing are also highly recommended. This breed is not high maintenance, and with basic care, you will help give him a long and happy life.
